Lumos Robotics Launches MOS2 as 'AI Worker,' Bringing Embodied Intelligence to the Factory Floor

Lumos Robotics, a developer of embodied intelligence and industrial robotics, has officially launched Lumos MOS2, its next-generation heavy-duty mobile manipulator designed for industrial applications. Positioned as an "AI Worker," MOS2 combines 50-kilogram-class dual-arm payload capacity, a compact and agile form factor, and multimodal perception to perform real-world manufacturing tasks. MOS2 has already been deployed on Mitsubishi Electric's core PLC production lines, where it is performing tasks including flexible PLC quality inspection, box pushing, screwdriving and material handling. The deployments span multiple industrial workflows, including quality inspection, intralogistics, material handling and assembly.
Designed for Real Industrial Value
"Products cannot be perfected in the laboratory alone. They have to be tested, validated and iterated in real-world environments," said Yu Chao, Founder and Chief Executive of Lumos Robotics. "Dancing, running and doing backflips may demonstrate a robot's physical capabilities, but they do not prove its industrial value. What industrial customers ultimately care about is task success rate, production cycle time, deployment time and return on investment." Lumos Robotics defines MOS2 as an AI Worker rather than simply a robotic platform built for demonstrations. The goal is to create an embodied intelligent operator that can continuously perform tasks on real production lines, reuse learned capabilities across different workflows and transfer experience between environments.
Proven Through Continuous Factory Operation
The first generation of MOS robots has completed more than 1,000 hours of continuous, failure-free operation at Mitsubishi Electric's Changshu factory, establishing a closed loop between manufacturing-floor data and embodied-operation models. In PLC visual inspection, MOS robots can autonomously identify PLC products of different sizes and use coordinated dual-arm movements to conduct six-sided, unobstructed visual inspections for surface defects. The system has subsequently expanded beyond inspection to tasks such as material handling, screwdriving and box handling, extending its application from quality control into logistics and assembly.

Built for Space-Constrained Factory Floors
MOS2 has undergone a comprehensive hardware upgrade to support demanding factory-floor applications. At approximately 1.65 meters in height and occupying just 0.5 square meters of floor space, MOS2 is designed to maneuver through narrow factory aisles and other space-constrained environments. Its dual arms provide a combined payload capacity of up to 50 kilograms, while rapid end-effector changes allow the robot to switch between different tools and workflows. These capabilities expand its potential applications to heavy-load handling, flexible loading and unloading, and large-component assembly.
Multimodal Perception and Flexible Operation
MOS2 combines visual and force sensing to support multimodal perception, enabling the robot to understand its surroundings, recognize task conditions and interact with objects during operation. Designed for dynamic production environments, the system can adapt to changes in tasks and working conditions, reducing the need for extensive pre-calibration and helping streamline deployment in complex industrial settings. "Industrial customers ultimately care less about individual technologies than whether a robot can solve real production problems and create tangible value," Yu added.
Mitsubishi Electric: From Customer to Strategic Investor
Mitsubishi Electric's relationship with Lumos Robotics began with industrial deployment and subsequently evolved into a strategic investment partnership. In 2025, Mitsubishi Electric and Lumos Robotics entered into a strategic cooperation agreement centered on real-world manufacturing needs. Mitsubishi Electric opened four major industrial application scenarios to Lumos Robotics: quality inspection, assembly, sorting and material handling. The companies subsequently established joint laboratories in Suzhou and Shanghai to deploy MOS systems for AI-based visual inspection validation on PLC production lines. Their jointly developed flexible inspection solution has since progressed from laboratory testing to deployment on actual production lines.
Series A Financing Strengthens the Partnership
In May 2026, Mitsubishi Electric Smart Manufacturing Technology (China) Group Co., Ltd. led Lumos Robotics' Series A1 and A2 financing rounds, with the two rounds bringing the company's cumulative funding to more than 1 billion yuan since its inception. "Mitsubishi Electric approached our collaboration from the needs of real production lines, opening up four key industrial application scenarios to Lumos Robotics: quality inspection, assembly, sorting and material handling," said Yu Chao. "Our products had already reached a level of maturity that enabled them to adapt to these scenarios. So Mitsubishi Electric first became our customer and then our investor. This progression shows that customers can first recognize the practical value of our products and then come to recognize the company's long-term value."
Scaling Embodied Intelligence Across Manufacturing
Lumos Robotics plans to use its work with Mitsubishi Electric as a benchmark for expanding MOS2 into a broader range of industrial environments, including electronics, automotive and semiconductor manufacturing. The company has established bases in Suzhou and Nanjing, positioning itself close to the manufacturing supply chains and diverse industrial application scenarios of the Yangtze River Delta. By combining embodied-intelligence models with real-world manufacturing environments, Lumos Robotics aims to accelerate the transition of embodied AI from laboratory demonstrations to continuous, scalable deployment on factory floors, helping manufacturers move toward greater flexibility, automation and intelligence.
