Embodied AI AIR
AI ChatLast updated:
AIR is the first humanoid robot from Embodied AI, a Swiss startup spun out of EPFL in Lausanne, and it was unveiled at Humanoid Europe 2026 in Munich on November 6, 2026. It is built to share the factory floor with people instead of working behind a safety cage. AIR has a humanlike upper body with two arms mounted on a column over a wheeled base, because factory floors are flat and wheels are more stable than legs. Its motors, gearboxes and electronics sit in the torso, and its soft, light arms are moved by tendons, so they carry almost no mass and give way on contact; each 2 kg arm can lift 5 kg. AIR takes on repetitive, high-variation manual jobs such as kitting, packaging, picking, placing and plugging parts. It starts each new job under the control of a remote human operator, so it is useful from its first shift, and Embodied AI's own AI stack learns from every recorded run until AIR can do the task on its own, typically within a month. What one robot learns can be shared with the next, and depending on the task one AIR can handle the workload of up to three people per shift.

Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to common questions about this robot
Q1. What is Embodied AI AIR, and what problem is it designed to solve?
AIR is a humanoid robot from the Swiss company Embodied AI. It is built to take over repetitive manual factory work while working safely next to people.
Q2. What are the main capabilities and key features of Embodied AI AIR?
It has two soft, tendon-driven arms on a wheeled base, starts each job under remote human control and then learns to do the job on its own.
Q3. Who is Embodied AI AIR built for, and which industries can benefit from it?
It is built for manufacturers, especially electronics and automotive plants, that still rely on people for tasks that change too often for conventional robots.
Q4. Is Embodied AI AIR a commercial product or still a research prototype?
It is a commercial product that Embodied AI is testing with global manufacturers while it plans scaled production.
Q5. Is Embodied AI AIR currently available for purchase, and when is it expected to ship?
Embodied AI is opening orders after the unveiling and works with each company through a site assessment and a pilot.
Q6. How does Embodied AI AIR actually work in real-world environments?
An operator first runs the robot remotely, every run is recorded, and the company's AI learns from those runs until the robot can do the task by itself.
Q7. When was Embodied AI AIR announced or officially launched?
Embodied AI unveiled it in November 2026 at Humanoid Europe in Munich.
Q8. How is Embodied AI AIR different from other robots in the same category?
Instead of relying on software to keep a heavy robot safe, its arms are so light and soft that they give way on contact, so it does not need a cage.
Q9. Does Embodied AI AIR require additional development or customization after purchase?
No major changes are needed: it rolls onto an existing line and learns the specific task on site.
Q10. What is the future roadmap or planned upgrades for Embodied AI AIR?
Embodied AI plans CE marking and scaled production, and each new deployment adds skills that later robots can reuse.
