Syntro is a wheeled industrial humanoid from WorkFar, a U.S. company that builds it in American factories, with the robot produced at Advantage Plastics in Louisville, Kentucky. WorkFar introduced it in August 2024 as a robot that a trained operator can run remotely in VR while onboard AI handles vision, motion planning and the physics of each move, and it can also work on its own. Syntro stands 1.7 m (5 ft 8 in) tall, is 64 cm wide, weighs 108 kg and carries up to 20 kg. It has 45 degrees of freedom: two in the head, four in each arm, three in each wrist, twelve in each hand, two in the waist and three in its omnidirectional wheel base, with Maxon motors and Harmonic Drives. A swappable 1.2 kWh battery runs it for 6 to 10 hours, an Intel multi-core i5 runs custom Linux with ROS2, and it connects by Wi-Fi 6 and 5G LTE. It senses with 2D LiDAR, cameras and microphones. Customers can buy the base robot with its SDK, add a Telepresence package (VR headset, gloves, suit and pedals) for live teleoperation and AI training, or add an Intelligent package with WorkFar's AI license for learning and fleet management. WorkFar targets warehouses, manufacturing and hazardous or clean-room work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about this robot

Q1. What is Syntro, and what problem is it designed to solve?

Syntro is a wheeled industrial humanoid from WorkFar in the United States. A trained operator can run it remotely in VR, or it can work on its own, to handle tasks that are repetitive or unsafe for people.

Q2. What are the main capabilities and key features of Syntro?

It has two dexterous arms and hands, an omnidirectional wheel base, a swappable battery, LiDAR and cameras, and optional packages for live telepresence and for built-in AI.

Q3. Who is Syntro built for, and which industries can benefit from it?

It is built for warehouses, factories, clean rooms and hazardous sites that face labor shortages or safety risks.

Q4. Is Syntro a commercial product or still a research prototype?

It is a commercial product that WorkFar builds in its own American factories and sells online in several packages.

Q5. Is Syntro currently available for purchase, and when is it expected to ship?

Yes. WorkFar sells it through its website as a base robot or with add-on packages, and also leases human-robot teams to businesses.

Q6. How does Syntro actually work in real-world environments?

The operator wears a VR headset, gloves and a suit, the robot mirrors the movements, and onboard AI turns the commands into stable motion, with autonomy added by the Intelligent package.

Q7. When was Syntro announced or officially launched?

WorkFar announced it in August 2024.

Q8. How is Syntro different from other robots in the same category?

It uses omnidirectional wheels instead of legs, offers a choice of package for teleoperation or autonomy, and is made in the United States.

Q9. Does Syntro require additional development or customization after purchase?

Companies can use the supplied SDK and ROS2-based software to program custom tasks, and can add the Telepresence or Intelligent package later.

Q10. What is the future roadmap or planned upgrades for Syntro?

WorkFar continues to add AI, fleet management and teleoperation tools and offers newer Syntro platform versions.
