Quadruped Debut Addresses Real-World Demands
Humanoid robots struggle with full-body motion imitation, balance, and manipulation in unstructured settings, but quadruped designs offer resilient alternatives for complex terrains. Pudu Robotics unveiled the PUDU D5 series, an industry-grade autonomous quadruped robot, on December 3, 2025, demonstrating its capabilities for inspection, delivery, and operations in dynamic outdoor and industrial environments. The launch highlights advanced autonomy and rugged mobility, as shown in official demos navigating obstacles and following users seamlessly.
Key Advances Stand Out
The D5 differentiates through full-coverage perception with dual LiDARs and fisheye cameras for centimeter-level positioning, all-weather operation from -20°C to 55°C with IP67 protection, and natural interaction via 10+ gestures and voice control in noisy settings. Its NVIDIA Orin and RK3588 processors deliver 275 TOPS for real-time SLAM, obstacle avoidance, and path planning without supervision. The PUDU D5 prioritizes reliable teleoperation in human spaces over rigid programming.
Perception Drives Autonomy
User commands or environmental inputs feed into the dual-processor system for fused vision-depth processing, enabling predictive obstacle avoidance and trajectory planning. Joint actuators then execute stable movement, handling 25 cm steps, 30° climbs, and 45° descents at up to 5 m/s cruising speed. This flow supports continuous operation in crowded or rugged areas, as demonstrated in controlled videos.
Inspection Transforms Remote Work
In remote industrial inspections, the D5 navigates factories or construction sites autonomously, using RCOS for live video feeds and instant commands to operators. It follows workers precisely while avoiding dynamic hazards, delivering tools or scanning areas in rain or dust without pausing. This enables safer, efficient monitoring in hazardous zones previously requiring human exposure.
