GENISOM L1 W, also written L1-W, is a compact wheel-leg quadruped from Genisom AI and is marketed as the first small industry-grade wheeled quadruped. Each leg ends in a wheel, so it rolls quickly and almost silently on flat ground and switches to legs to climb stairs, step over obstacles and squeeze through tight spaces. A fully protected body, learned balance control and open hardware ports make it a tough, easy-to-extend platform for patrol, inspection, rescue and teaching. An EDU version adds an onboard NVIDIA computer, 3D LiDAR, depth camera and satellite positioning for navigation research.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about this robot

Q1. What is the robot dog GENISOM L1 W, and what problem does it solve?

GENISOM L1 W is a small wheel-leg quadruped robot from Genisom AI. It solves the trade-off between speed and rough-terrain ability by rolling on wheels over smooth ground and using its legs to climb and step over obstacles.

Q2. What are the main capabilities and key features of GENISOM L1 W?

It combines quiet, efficient wheeled travel with leg-based stair climbing and obstacle crossing. It has learned balance control that resists pushes and recovers from falls, a protected body, and open hardware ports and an SDK for add-ons.

Q3. Who is GENISOM L1 W built for, and which industries benefit from it?

It is built for security patrol teams, emergency and rescue responders, facility inspectors, universities and robotics labs that want a compact, expandable platform.

Q4. Is GENISOM L1 W a commercial product or a research prototype?

It is a commercial product. It is sold in Standard and EDU versions, and the EDU version is aimed at research and secondary development.

Q5. Is GENISOM L1 W currently available for purchase?

Yes. Genisom AI and authorized distributors sell it, though availability can vary by version and region, so buyers should confirm stock and request a quote.

Q6. How does GENISOM L1 W perform in real-world environments and rough terrain?

It is shown rolling over grass, paths and stairs, crossing rocks and rubble and passing under low obstacles. Its protected body and sealing let it work outdoors and in industrial sites, and it runs quietly enough for shared indoor spaces.

Q7. When was GENISOM L1 W announced or officially launched?

Genisom AI introduced it as the wheeled version of its L1 quadruped and presented it, together with the M1, at ICRA 2026 in Vienna.

Q8. How does GENISOM L1 W compare to other quadruped robot dogs?

Most small quadruped dogs walk on legs only. The L1 W adds wheels for speed, quiet running and longer range, and keeps legs for stairs and obstacles, while a sealed body and open interfaces make it more industry-ready.

Q9. Can GENISOM L1 W be customized with add-ons or third-party tools?

Yes. It exposes standard data and power ports and a full SDK, so compute boards, LiDAR, cameras, positioning and communication modules can be added. The EDU version ships with research hardware and open-source tools.

Q10. What is the future roadmap or planned upgrades for GENISOM L1 W?

Genisom AI continues to improve the L series, and its newer L2 model brings a larger battery and stronger joints. Software, simulation and navigation tools for the L-series platforms keep expanding.
