Adam Lite
AI ChatLast updated:
Adam Lite is the entry-level version of PNDbotics' full-size bipedal humanoid Adam, built by PNDbotics in Beijing as a locomotion and reinforcement-learning platform for researchers and students. It stands 1.67 m tall and weighs 60 kg, with 25 degrees of freedom: six in each leg, three in the waist and five in each arm, and it carries simple spherical hand end-effectors instead of dexterous fingers. It uses the same PSA quasi-direct-drive actuators as the larger Adam models, with peak torques of about 340 N·m at the hip and knee, about 46 N·m at the ankle and about 60 N·m at the arm, and walks at up to 1.5 m/s. A NUC12WSKi7 computer runs PNDbotics' whole-body control and model predictive control balance algorithms, and a 1172 Wh battery powers the robot, which connects by Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. PNDbotics documents an Adam Lite reinforcement-learning workflow with training, play, sim-to-sim and sim-to-real steps built on Isaac Gym, plus an SDK, URDF and MJCF models and VR teleoperation. Labs use it to develop walking and balance algorithms before moving up to the arm- and hand-equipped Adam models.

Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to common questions about this robot
Q1. What is Adam Lite, and what problem is it designed to solve?
Adam Lite is the entry-level model of PNDbotics' full-size walking humanoid Adam, aimed at labs and students who mainly need a robot that walks and balances.
Q2. What are the main capabilities and key features of Adam Lite?
It walks on two legs with human-like hip motion, balances with whole-body control, has simple ball-shaped hands, and comes with simulation models and a reinforcement-learning workflow.
Q3. Who is Adam Lite built for, and which industries can benefit from it?
It is built for universities, research groups and developers working on locomotion, balance and reinforcement learning.
Q4. Is Adam Lite a commercial product or still a research prototype?
It is a commercial research platform and the lowest-cost version of the Adam line.
Q5. Is Adam Lite currently available for purchase, and when is it expected to ship?
PNDbotics sells it to institutions and developers and quotes prices on request, so availability and delivery are agreed with the company.
Q6. How does Adam Lite actually work in real-world environments?
A motion controller keeps the body balanced, and developers train walking policies in simulation and transfer them to the real robot.
Q7. When was Adam Lite announced or officially launched?
PNDbotics presented its Adam humanoids at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in July 2025.
Q8. How is Adam Lite different from other robots in the same category?
It drops the dexterous hands and the AI computer of the bigger models, which keeps the platform simple and focused on walking research.
Q9. Does Adam Lite require additional development or customization after purchase?
Yes. Developers use the open SDK, models and training guides to build their own walking and control software.
Q10. What is the future roadmap or planned upgrades for Adam Lite?
PNDbotics keeps expanding the Adam family and moving the platform from prototype toward mass production.
