Unitree Laikago is the first commercial quadruped from Unitree Robotics, the Hangzhou company that went on to make the Go and B series. Named after Laika, the first dog to orbit Earth, it showed that a nimble, all-electric robot dog could be built from low-cost brushless motors and in-house controllers. It walks forward, backward and sideways, climbs grassy slopes, crosses loose rocks and keeps its balance when pushed or kicked, adjusting its body angle as the ground shifts. It was sold mainly to universities as a research platform, and it led directly to the AlienGo and later Unitree robot dogs.
