RP1
Last updated:
RP1 (also called ROBOTO 01) is a full-size bipedal humanoid robot from RoboParty, the Shanghai team behind the open-source ROBOTO Origin project. It debuted at IROS 2026 in Pittsburgh on September 28, 2026, where visitors were invited to push and kick it in a "Kick Me" demo to show how quickly it recovers its balance and gets back up after a fall. RP1 stands 1.35 m tall and weighs about 39 kg. It has 24 active degrees of freedom, or 30 on the RP1 Pro, and runs on RoboParty's own Romomo joint modules with up to 160 N·m of peak torque. It can run at up to 4 m/s, climb 30° slopes, carry 5 kg per arm and work for about 3 hours on a hot-swappable 10 Ah battery. What sets it apart is that it is open source end to end: RoboParty publishes the structure drawings, bill of materials, PCBs and 3D models, as well as the drivers, gait algorithms, ROS 2 middleware, SDK, simulation and training code. Swappable heads and hands let one robot serve motion-control, perception, data-collection or interaction work. RP1 is built for researchers, universities and embodied-AI teams.

ROBOTO ORIGIN
Manufactured by RoboParty
ROBOTO ORIGIN is RoboParty's fully open-source bipedal humanoid prototype, also released as RoboHead (hardware ATOM 01). About 1.25 m tall and 34 kg, it was designed and built in roughly four months in 2025, then open-sourced in January 2026 with structure drawings, BOM, electronics, RL training and deployment code. It can run at about 3 m/s using RoboParty's AMP gait algorithm, and its full bill of materials totals $7,000 (about ¥49,713).

Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to common questions about this robot
Q1. What is RP1, and what problem is it designed to solve?
RP1, also called ROBOTO 01, is a full-size walking humanoid robot from RoboParty. It gives researchers and developers a capable humanoid that they can fully open up, study, modify and rebuild, instead of a closed black box.
Q2. What are the main capabilities and key features of RP1?
It walks, runs, climbs slopes and steps, recovers from pushes and gets back up after falls. It has swappable heads and hands for different jobs, a hot-swappable battery, and an open software and hardware stack covering everything from motor drivers to AI training code.
Q3. Who is RP1 built for, and which industries can benefit from it?
It is built for university labs, robotics researchers, educators, independent developers and embodied-AI teams that need a real humanoid body to train and test their models.
Q4. Is RP1 a commercial product or still a research prototype?
It is a commercial research platform. RoboParty showed working units publicly at IROS 2026 and has announced a mass-production program.
Q5. Is RP1 currently available for purchase, and when is it expected to ship?
RoboParty has not announced public pricing yet. Interested buyers can contact the company, and it plans to start mass production in late 2026.
Q6. How does RP1 actually work in real-world environments?
A real-time motion controller keeps it balanced while it walks, runs and reacts to pushes. Developers add cameras or LiDAR through swappable heads and train new skills in simulation with RoboParty's open training tools before running them on the robot.
Q7. When was RP1 announced or officially launched?
It debuted at IROS 2026 in Pittsburgh in September 2026, and RoboParty released its official launch film in October 2026.
Q8. How is RP1 different from other robots in the same category?
Most humanoids keep their hardware designs and low-level code private. RoboParty publishes RP1's drawings, parts list, circuit boards and full software stack, so users can repair, copy and change any part of it.
Q9. Does RP1 require additional development or customization after purchase?
It works out of the box with remote and app control. Most buyers will then write their own software with the open SDK and ROS 2, which is the point of the platform.
Q10. What is the future roadmap or planned upgrades for RP1?
RoboParty plans to release more of its motion-control, simulation, SDK and training tools step by step, alongside wider hardware releases and mass production.
